Solo exhibition “Coffee” in gallery “Process”

Exhibition “Drinking Coffee” by Anđela Petrovski was on display at the Process gallery from February 11 to 18.

Sometimes life is very simple. Sometimes good things in life are simple and you don’t have to fight or earn them. Suppose we are drinking coffee… Anything can revolve around coffee. While having coffee we share stories, laughter, sadness, business discussions, and we meet people… That moment somehow stops the clock, but it also creates something. In that way various people of different temperaments are able to find common ground. Therefore, coffee is much more than just drinking and because of that I dedicate this exhibition to coffee, since I believe that coffee connects people.

Možda stekli i nova prijateljstva.

Jednog dana stekli smo manju grupu prijatelja.

People who have passed through Serbia, fleeing from war, have left a deep mark on the people here; like we have on them. We socialized, meeting one another. Maybe some of us even made new friends. Considering the situation in Belgrade, Sid and Presevo, all the people who brought food, drink, medicine and clothing left a good impression.

My cousin and I, while working on her research, visited these places. In these locations, especially Belgrade, we met many people. They were generally positive and full of smiles. The simply couldn’t feel differently. One day we met and befriended a small group of friends. We agreed to meet up the following day for some coffee. When we arrived at the agreed time they weren’t there. We looked everywhere for them, and then a message from them arrived, they wished to stay but they had to go. The next day we received a greeting from Austria, and shortly thereafter, a greeting from Germany. That message brought us joy, as if it came from someone near and dear. Our short encounter was for us, and for them, reason enough to stay in contact.

Sometimes being present and aware of the situation and keeping yourself open toward other is the only way to truly help someone. Refugees who passed through our country were in need of food and clothing, but often the only thing they needed the most was to share time and stories with another person. To feel human.

The Coffee and Tea House “Teferic”

Čovek iza šanka vešto i brzo kuva kafu i sipa u šoljice. Naruče novu turu i kreću u novu priču.

The Coffee and Tea House “Teferic” is located in Novi Pazar, Serbia. It’s situated in the town center’s old bazaar, surrounded by craft stores, bakeries and coffee roasters. Teferic is unique for its warm and welcoming ambiance but also for its process of preparing coffee. The old Isa-Begov bath house resides just below the coffee house. It’s backyard, enclosed by ancient stone walls, serves as a patio in the summer. In the corner of the café is a very small kitchen, where coffee is prepared on hot embers. A man behind the bar skillfully and quickly prepares the muddy thick coffee and disseminates it into cups. The place is filled with patrons: those who linger in conversation and those who drink their morning coffee and go off on their way. A young man serves the coffee from store to store so that at any given moment, coffee that is made from the Teferic kitchen is being sipped in some location of the bazaar. Everyone here is a friend, a colleague or a neighbor. People here are dynamic, they often walk from table to table to greet familiar and even unfamiliar faces. They order another round and start a new conversation. This place is an inevitable destination for almost anyone who visits the bazaar. It simply radiates such an atmosphere that it calls for a moment to take a coffee break, smile, greet people, share a moment together and go on with our day.
